On Music

I had a lazy Sunday. I slept late, enjoyed coffee and a walk with a friend, and babysat the boys solo. Now Katie and I are watching The Grammys, snacks included. Does it get any better than this?

Sure, sure most of it is pop music and I will agree that at times pop music makes my ear drums bleed, but I can't help but sucked into the hype of it all. I love music, for more reasons then I could ever dare track.

Lately, the girls and I have been citing our favorite lyrics and soliciting others to do the same. The data shows that there is no correlation for why we love certain songs the way we do. Much of it is lyric based for me, I get off to feeling all self-loathing and angsty while listening to light rock, or sentimental acoustic shit, or songs I loved when I was younger. However, when I'm not wallowing in abhorrence for a past lover it's all about the sound. Music can alter a mood, simple sounds blended together can get me cranked up or calmed down much faster than any other medium. And for that alone I can't get enough.

Lately I've been listening to Mumford & Sons in my car, KiD CuDi before we go out, 98.1 (Cat Country) in the shower, and The Avett Brothers Pandora station.

My all time favorite male artist is Bob Dylan, suck it alright? I know it's cliche.
Female artist is a toss up between Jenny Lewis and Joni Mitchell, all about the lyrics.
Band? I can't fucking pick. It used to be The Red Hot Chili Peppers but now I love too many to choose.

Lyrics?

Eyeless in the morning sun you were
pale and mild, a modern girl
taken with thought, still prone to care
makin' tea in your underwear

or maybe

Life is what happens to you
While you're busy making other plans

or maybe

The water's there to warm you
And the earth is warmer when you laugh

or maybe I can't pick those either.

Your turn.
